AMRA Symposium

IMG_4378On Saturday 19th of January 2013, members of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Research Association (AMRA) met to discuss natural selection and the existence of God. It was part of an ongoing series, the aim of the event was to prepare our students and non-student Khuddam to counter the atheistic arguments currently prevalent in academic and scientific circles. The particular proposition under discussion was:

“The modern theory of evolution has pushed God out of the realms of biology. Where once we saw the hand of God in shaping complex biological organisms we now have proven mechanisms in no need of the God hypothesis. Thus biology as we know and observe it, provides no evidence of an active deist or theist God” .

The attendees were divided in to two groups and asked to come up with honest arguments and counter arguments for different positions. Guidance from the Holy Qur’an was emphasised. The attendees enthusiastically took part and a lively discussion ensued. Everyone was treated to a hearty lunch and tea, which kept the conversations going till late. The event was held at an AMRA member.

In doing so the AMRA members are humbly striving to join those mentioned in the Holy Qur’an’ in the following verse: “In the creation of the heavens and the earth and in the alternation of the night and the day there are indeed Signs for men of understanding; Those who remember Allah while standing, sitting, and lying on their sides, and ponder over the creation of the heavens and the earth: “Our Lord, Thou hast not created this in vain; nay, Holy art Thou; save us, then, from the punishment of the Fire” [Aal-e-Imran 3:191-192]

AMRA plans to have monthly such sessions in the future. Insha’Allah.
